Excess Baggage, Extra Skincare « Mummy Knows Best - The hands-on mum's guide to cool kids' stuff

Skincare from Day 1

I hate them now and I hated them then. I didn’t think they would happen to me but they did. I had heard a lot of scary stories about them and they were more or less true. Thank God I can also say ‘less true’ because I found just the combat weapon just in time. I apologize for talking in riddles I am talking about ‘stretch marks’. I can barely get myself to say it. I don’t intend to be theatrical but some of us feel particularly touchy about this part of the most wonderful phase of our lives, pregnancy.

I was going into my second trimester and I was growing fast. Apart from eating way more than I needed to I was also sluggish on the exercise front. I started noticing light coloured snaking streaks across my ‘adorable’ belly. I know stretch marks when I see them and they were right there. I had been advised to use only natural products like coconut or olive oil, neither of which is known to have exceptional skincare properties. At least not enough to stop or remove stretch marks. So I asked a couple of my new mummy friends and I am so glad they all recommended the same thing. Body Shop’s ‘Cocoa Butter Body Butter’. I know the product says it works on stretch marks but I and a bunch of other mom’s are witness that it does. Thankfully it is all natural, available in most parts of the country and very little needs to be applied to get a complete moisturized feeling. My stretch marks lightened considerably and no news ones came around.

Just take a fingertip full and gently massage on the affected areas, it is non greasy so it won’t stain clothes and it’s not sticky so you won’t feel heavy (or heavier than you already do!). If you are lucky enough to read this post in your first trimester itself, I recommend using body butter right away, it will keep the itching in control and thus lead to fewer stretch marks. Luckily for our generation of mom’s there is a lot more out there for us to keep looking plush and radiant. The bigger plus is that ‘Body Shop’ has recently lowered their prices, so enjoy!

Cocoa Butter Body Butter is available at all the Body Shop outlets in the country. A 200 ml jar is priced at Rs. 745.
