I wanted songs I was familiar with, but presented in an original fun way. I wanted some real instruments in the background – you know – acoustic guitar, some tambourines, a banjo or two, rather than just an electronic keyboard. I wanted traditional songs in a few different languages. I wanted songs that I could enjoy along with the kids. I wanted….I wanted the moon, or so I thought.

Thats when I discovered the CDs from Old Town School of  Folk Music. An internationally acclaimed institution known for teaching and presenting music in its own unique way, the Old Town School has released two CDs – Wiggleworms love you and Songs for Wiggleworms. The CDs contain a mix of classic children’s rhymes, to folk favourites with a few French and Spanish numbers thrown into the mix. Its got the childhood staples like Row, Row, Row your Boat, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Old Mac Donald, Wheels on the Bus etc. but with a fun twist to them. There are some old favourites like You are my Sunshine, Polly Wolly doodle, Miss Mary Mack and La Bamba and Twist and Shout add a bit of rock ‘n roll to the mix and keep the adults interested.

And the kids? They’ll be dancing or singing along and begging you to play this “just one last time”. Take it from someone who has heard the CDs a 100 times. And is still not sick of them. Great for road trips. Ages: 2 to adult.
