Ashtang Yoga for expectant mothers.
If you are pregnant and lamenting the end of the gym sessions and, like I did, keep asking your gynac when you can start exercising again, then think about signing up for a prenatal yoga class.
Needless to say, your doctor has to provide the green signal for this activity as with any other and decide when the right time to start will be. I was ready for yoga in the fourth month and believe me it was terrific.
Conducted by Dr. Mohan, who is an
anaesthetist with my gynac, this class is open to all, but special attention is paid to those expecting. Dr. Mohan guides you on what you can and cannot do during the session and has an assistant who watches every move and is around to help.
Yoga kept away leg cramps, backaches
and ensured flexibility throughout.
I attended yoga class till the day before my contractions began. The breathing techniques taught at the class also made the labour process not so frightening an experience.
This class is safe, fun and offers a good amount of exercise and tons of flexibility. Post delivery, the option of moving to the more strenuous power yoga also exists.
Dr Mohans 1 hour sessions are conducted thrice a week at the Yoga Centre located at Dr. Sandhya Puris Nursing Home, Chembur, Near Basant Cinema, Golf Club Road, Chembur. Rs. 800/- per month. Power Yoga Rs. 1,500/- per month. Dr. Mohan – 9821125395
