I would normally turn my nose up at any suggestions about a gym for kids but I heard of Lil’ Munchkins and they weren’t talking dumbbells, pull ups or pushups but a wide range of fun activities for kids that help in developing flexibility, stability, strength, movement and balance. We went to check it out recently and believe me; I had a hard time trying to get our baccha to leave the centre.
Lil’ Munchkins is located in Khar and although the actual floor space is modest, the colours are bright and the equipment is well maintained and custom made to their specifications and here imagine: rope ladders, foam shapes and blocks, a rock climbing wall, an inflatable pool filled with coloured balls (this could take our 16 kg tot being thrown in with ease much to his delight), Swiss balls and a large mirrored wall. There are classes for kids aged 10 months right up to 13 years. The mamas are allowed with babies under 1.5 years. The classes are age appropriate and the ratio of teacher to child is 1:2, with only 8 lil’ ones per class. They also have classes for children with special needs.
Each one hour session involves a whole lot of chatting, laughing, tumbling, hanging, climbing, swinging and generally having a blast. For city kids who don’t get too much outdoor time and hardly any scope for monkey tricks, this is an ideal way to let them let loose. What is also interesting is that there is complete flexibility on session usage. The minimum number of classes is 13 and although they recommend 3 hours per week, you can actually head there whenever and they log you in. So even if we are not based in Bandra, we can happily clock in once a week at this fun zone.
Our son enjoyed his visit and interacting with Ekta the physiotherapist (who also runs the centre) and is already asking when he can go there again. We are definitely headed back to sign up.
