p style=”text-align: left;”>Watching all those exclusive channels dedicated to traveling and the world becoming much smaller for the aspiring traveler, travel is always on my mind. Traveling with a kid for the first time was daunting(you should have seen my luggage) but as the years have gone by, I realize,

with experience and better planning it is absolutely delightful, especially as my son is
so much more happier and well behaved on holidays!
Whether traveling abroad or locally a little bit of preplanning makes the holiday smooth sailing. I thought I’d share the must ‘must do’s’ and ‘must take’s’ from my list which have helped me on all my holidays.
- Meds! – most important and I visit my peadiatrician to get a list of what medicines to carry and use in different situations. The list I have is for cold, cough, fever, stomach upset/pain, rashes, vomiting, dysentery etc. This is especially important if you child has an ongoing medical condition. Also add an antiseptic, band-aids, thermometer, burnol and sprain bandage. This travel medicine pouch is kept exclusively for travel so I don’t need to repack for those quick getaways.
-Clothes- check the weather conditions and be prepared with caps, jackets, socks, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion etc.
- Wipes, Toilet paper, Ziploc bags, Hand Sanitizer, Detergent- Travel packs of wipes are one of the most useful things on any holiday and so are Ziploc bags as they are useful for putting away food, soiled clothes etc.
-Airplane travel- Try and book your seats in advance so that you can choose the best seats and ask for basinets if you are traveling with infants.
Carrying some toys or colouring books keeps them occupied on long flights. Candy to suck on when the flights take off and land keeps the earache away. In case of infants you could feed them at these times. Check this website for more useful tips. http://www.flyingwithkids.com/travel_tips.htm
-Entertainment – While traveling light is better, some essentials like your child’s favourite toy, Beach toys(if you are heading to the beach), a set of crayons and colouring book, puzzle books are important, as they can keep kids occupied for hours when in planes, cars or when you are getting your well deserved massage.
-Music and Stories – IPods and mp3 players with some of their favourite music and stories. Karadi Tales goes everywhere with me.
-Favourite Snacks- Don’t we all love our comfort food? It’s a veritable soother even with kids, so carry a couple of favourites for those trying times or when meal times are delayed.
-Water- Bottled water is available almost everywhere but a small personal stash is always a safety net.
-Stroller- Now this is a decision you take based on whether the place you are going to is stroller friendly(the US, Europe and most destinations are) as you don’t want to be stuck with the stroller and have to carry your baby. Even if you don’t own one, it’s sometimes worth borrowing for your holiday.
-Comfies- A travel neck pillow and a baby blanket are real comforts for both of you’ll as you know, kids comfy=mom comfy! Once old enough, they’ll carry these on their own!
-Don’t forget the ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy” attitude as on a holiday there are chances of things not going as planned and this is what helps the most.
