p>If your child has been through the ?why? stage and never seemed to have knocked it off; help is at hand. This one is specially for parents and young adults who love science and can?t get enough of the how?s and why?s. TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research) has started a forum called Chai
and Why? – an informal science interaction with the public.
This forum has been created on the lines of Caf?
Scientifique in Europe and Science Caf? in the US and is all about taking concepts out of the traditional academic setting. The science and technology issues covered relate to topics that affect our world today such as global warming, space exploration, stem cells, lasers, light energy

and nano technology to name a few.
The typical format starts with an introductory talk from the speaker who is usually a scientist. This is followed by an informal discussion over chai and then the speaker takes questions from the audience. While you may think it could be intimidating to ask a scientist questions from a lay man point of view; I?ve heard that they actually use simple language and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. So even a person with no science background is made comfortable enough to ask questions.
So be brave. If you and your child enjoy marveling at the wonders of science and would like to know more or even if you are a techno-head, go on over for an exhilarating few hours. The organizers even welcome topic suggestions from the audience.
